American race walker Katie Burnett strode to a win and personal best today in the 10km race walk at the 2019 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, IA. She crossed the finish line in 46 minutes and 12.45 seconds. Miranda Melville finished in second place in 46 minutes and 49.9 seconds, some 37 behind Burnett. Robyn Stevens took third with a time of 47 minutes and 22.54 seconds.
On July 13 at the National Invitational Race Walk, Katie set a new world record for the 50km race walk on the track with a time of 4 hours, 29 minutes and 45 seconds. That effort also qualified her for the distance at in the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, Sept. 28.
But first, Katie will travel with Team USA to the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru where she will compete in the 20km race walk set for next Sunday, Aug. 11.
